United Nations Day

We should mark the UN days because this is an occasion to educate the public on issues of concern and resources to address global problems and to celebrate and reinforce achievements of humanity.

On October 24,1945, more than 50 countries came together to create the United Nations. Its purpose was to promote peace and cooperation around the world. Today, the United Nations is an organization made up of more than 100 countries, almost every nation in the world. The United Nations declared October 24 as United Nations Day in 1947. The event was to be observed by all member countries. United Nations Day continues to be celebrated globally.

In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a further resolution declaring that United Nations Day shall be an international holiday and recommended that it should be observed as a public holiday by United Nations member states.
